Former West Virginia shortstop JJ Wetherholt had his first professional four-hit game Friday as a member of the single-A Palm Beach Cardinals.
Wetherholt was selected No.7 overall by the St.Louis Cardinals back in July, becoming the highest-drafted Mountaineer in the MLB draft in program history. He was recently ranked as the No. 19 best prospect in all of baseball and the No. 1 overall prospect in the Cardinals system.
Friday against the Jupiter Hammerheads, Wetherholt got four-base knocks and drove in a run. In 14 games in A ball so far, the shortstop has a .289 batting average and .441 on-base percentage with seven RBIs and one homerun.
