MLB.com released their updated Top 100 prospects list with recently drafted players with former West Virginia shortstop JJ Wetherholt coming in ranked at No. 19.
Wetherholt was selected 7th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in last month’s MLB draft, becoming the highest drafted Mountaineer of all time. Wetherholt has already impressed early in his pro career, hitting for a .265 batting average and a .859 on-base plus slugging. He is the fourth-highest ranked prospect from the recent draft and the Cardinals No. 1 overall prospect.
Wetherholt is currently with St. Louis’ Single-A affiliate, the Palm Beach Cardinals. During his three years in Morgantown, Wetherholt was a multiple-time All-Big 12 player and All-American, including being a unanimous first-team All-American selection as a sophomore in 2022.
