After spiking production in his junior year, Garrett Greene is turning heads as someone capable of doing so again.
Greene participated as one of 46 collegiate quarterbacks at the Manning Passing Academy this weekend. Among top competition such as Texas’s Quinn Ewers, Georgia’s Carson Beck, and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Greene stood out.
This year marks the 28th edition of the Manning Passing Academy, hosted by Archie Manning under the assisting of former Super Bowl MVPs Peyton and Eli Manning. Greene participated in last season’s academy as well.
West Virginia head coach Neal Brown was enthusiastic about Greene’s performance at the academy ahead of last season, and now two years under his belt, Greene has certainly lived up to expectations.
“He’s going to be down there around some of the top quarterbacks in the country, as well as Peyton and Eli,” Brown said ahead of last season.
“Then he gets to do those competitions and when he does those people are going to be like ‘whoa’ because he can throw it with the best of them. That ball is going to come out tight.”
Alongside Greene’s academy performance this week, he also made headlines as becoming the new cover athlete for Athlon and Lindy’s sport magazines. He led West Virginia to a 9-4 record last season and was named the Duke’s Mayo Bowl MVP and a member of the All-Big 12 fourth team.
Greene and the Mountaineers will kick off the 2024 season against Penn State on August 31 at home.
