Josh Eilert expecting Akok Akok to return after one-game absence

West Virginia forward Akok Akok missed Saturday’s game due to a ‘medical issue.’

Interim head coach Josh Eilert gave an update on his status on Thursday ahead of a two-game road trip for the Mountaineers, starting with a trip to Texas in Austin on Saturday.

“He’s been full go ever since Saturday. Starting on Tuesday we had no issues,” Eilert said. “He was with us in practice, so we’re in a good spot with him right now.”

Eilert would not get into specifics regarding Akok’s issue on Saturday when he didn’t play in WVU’s loss to BYU.

“It was a medical issue. They were uncomfortable with him going at this time. I can’t get into the specifics, but it had nothing to do with him personally or my decision whatsoever. It’s something that we just had to just move on,” Eilert said postgame Saturday. “I don’t anticipate him missing another game at this point.”

Akok had been averaging 4.4 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game in 14 games played this season.
