Josh Eilert gives update on Akok Akok after he misses BYU game

West Virginia forward Akok Akok did not play on Saturday as West Virginia lost to No. 22 BYU.

Interim head coach Josh Eilert updated Akok’s status following the game and what the plan is for him going forward.

Eilert said Akok missed the game due to a medical issue. Eilert wouldn’t offer specifics on the matter, but said he doesn’t think it will keep him out another game going forward.

“It was a medical issue. They were uncomfortable with him going at this time. I can’t get into the specifics, but it had nothing to do with him personally or my decision whatsoever. It’s something that we just had to just move on,” Eilert said. “I don’t anticipate him missing another game at this point.”

Akok had been averaging 4.4 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game in 14 games played this season. WVU struggled in the front court to stop Fousseyni Traore as he scored 24 points and had nine rebounds.
