Zach Frazier suffers ‘significant’ injury in WVU’s win over Baylor

West Virginia starting center Zach Frazier went out of the game late in WVU’s 34-31 win over Baylor.

Frazier would hobble over to the sideline after he helped physically carry Hudson Clement to a first down, and then Frazier would immediately go down once he went out of bounds.

Following the game, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown said on Frazier that, he has a significant injury. Brown added he doesn’t know how long Frazier will be out, but that he will likely miss the bowl game.

“This is how smart he is and how tough he is — he had an injury that’s significant, not something that’s going to be long term, but he probably won’t play in the bowl game,” Brown said. “He limps off because he knows it’s a 10-second runoff if he stays down. He’s got a lower leg injury and he limps off on one leg to avoid a 10-second run off. I think that speaks to his intelligence, how tough he is and he’s a great player. I plan on doing this for a long time, I don’t think I’ll ever coach a center that’s better.”

“It really just breaks my heart. I’m probably not going to enjoy this win as much as I should just because of how much he means to me and how much he means to this entire state,” West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene said of Frazier after the game.

“The normal person really doesn’t realize that (going out of bounds) but that’s the type of kid he is. He’s as selfless as they come. 10 seconds could have been the difference,” Greene added.

Frazier is in his fourth season at WVU, a native of Fairmont, W.Va. Frazier had started WVU’s past 37 games at center and had been a starter in 46 of WVU’s last 47 games.
