West Virginia baseball loses three more to portal

West Virginia baseball lost three more players to the transfer portal with Kevin Dowdell, Tyler Cox, and Nick Matson, all entering the portal, per D1baseball.

Out of the three, Dowdell is the one who saw the most game action. Dowdell — a two-way player — is a graduate transfer who played in 29 games as a hitter and 11 as a pitcher this season. Dowdell had a 4.50 ERA while striking out seven in 6.0 innings. At the plate, he batted .200 with a home run, eight RBI, and eight runs scored.

Cox spent two seasons at WVU, playing in 25 games this year and starting one. Cox hit .077 this season, with one hit and three runs scored in 13 at-bats. Cox is originally from Westbury, New York.

Matson was a true freshman at WVU this past season and did not see the mound. Matson is a left-handed pitcher from Pennsylvania, who was ranked as the No. 40 overall prospect in Pennsylvania by Perfect Game prior to coming to WVU.
