West Virginia Baseball Transfer Portal Tracker

West Virginia baseball is in their offseason and with that comes the comings and goings of the transfer portal. We will keep an updated look at who enters from West Virginia and who will be coming to the Mountaineers for next season.

Tyler Cox (entered) – Cox was a sophomore at WVU and played in 25 games, starting once, and only had 13 recorded at-bats this season. Cox is originally from New York.

Kevin Dowdell (entered) – Dowdell will be a graduate transfer following his departure. He spent two years at community college before spending the past two seasons at WVU. Dowdell was a two-way player, pitching six innings on the mound this year, and hitting .200 in 29 games as a hitter.

Nick Matson (entered) – Matson was a true freshman left-handed pitcher from Pennsylvania who did not see game action in 2023 for WVU.

Kyle West (added) – Kyle West from Division II University of Charleston and spent two seasons there. This past season he hit .397 with 60 RBI and 22 home runs. In his two seasons there, West had 129 hits, 30 home runs, and 102 RBI. More on West can be found here.

Noah Short (entered) – Short was a great arm for WVU out of the bullpen. He holds the program record for appearances in a Mountaineer uniform with 76. He also had a 3.65 ERA across 12.1 innings pitched this season.

Zach Ramppen (entered) – Ramppen was a freshman for WVU this past year, appearing in 13 games. Ramppen hit .200 at the plate, and was still low on the catching depth chart.

Reed Chumley (added) – Chumley is a right-handed hitting infielder from Texas, who led the Southland Conference in hitting this past season. Chumley has spend two seasons at Houston Christian University, and hit .392 this season with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 40 games played this past year. More on Chumley can be found here.

Alvin ‘Tre’ Keels (entered) – Keels is the highest ranked recruit in program history, being ranked as the No. 66 overall recruit by Perfect Game when he came to school this past year. Keels played in only 11 games this year, with five at-bats, and had one hit.

Chris Sleeper (entered) – A right-handed pitcher, Sleeper is another sophomore to enter the portal. Sleeper threw only 3.1 innings this season, but has high upside after being named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team in 2022. Sleeper had 14 appearances, throwing 42.1 innings as a freshman, with a 3.61 ERA.

Evan Smith (entered) – Smith is an outfielder, who has spent the last two years at WVU. Smith played in 25 games this season, starting five of them. He had 35 at-bats, hitting .171, with six RBI. Smith played in 30 games, starting eight in 2022.

Ben Hampton (entered) – Hampton is a huge loss for WVU, being WVU’s ace and having major starting pitching experience. Hampton is a left-handed pitcher, and has thrown 222 innings in his three years at WVU. Hampton had a 4.45 ERA this season, striking out 66 hitters in 85 innings pitched while Hampton stared 41 games over the past three seasons.
Transferred to TCU

Michael Kilker (entered) – Kilker is a right-handed pitcher from Pennsylvania. Kilker appeared just once in 2023 for WVU, and has 12 appearances in two years as a Mountaineer. Kilker pitched 14.1 innings and gave up 12 runs on 10 hits in his career at WVU.
