After the season ended last weekend, West Virginia baseball head coach Randy Mazey said the Mountaineer coaching staff would be quick to find players to add for next season’s roster.
That first addition came on Friday, with the commitment from transfer Reed Chumley. Chumley attended Houston Christian University the past two years, hitting .392 this season with 11 home runs and 36 RBI in 40 games played.
This was a big jump from his freshman year when he batted just .189. Chumley is an infielder from Cypress, Texas. He slugged .722 this year, which led the Southland Conference. Chumley led the conference in average, slugging percentage, and OPS.
“Committed. All glory to God. Thankful for the journey and everyone who has been apart of it,” he said on Twitter. “Excited to see what this next chapter holds.”
Chumley has experience in the MLB Draft League, playing with the Mahoney Valley Scrapers last summer. In 28 games he hit .333, with two home runs and 10 RBI. This summer playing for the Williamsport Crosscutters, Chumley has played in eight games and has seven hits, eight runs scored, with six RBI.
