Coming up in the clutch, former WVU baseball star JJ Wetherholt helped propel the Cardinals to an extra inning win on Tuesday night.
Coming up in the top of the 10th inning having failed to reach base in the game, St. Louis’ rookie sensation sent a pitch to deep right field. Wetherholt’s double administered the final nail in the coffin for the Nationals.
His RBI double made the score 7-5, but ended up being the deciding run after Washington scored in the bottom half of the inning. Wetherholt was only 1-for-5 in the game, but his one hit was a really big one.
In 11 MLB games, the former Mountaineer is hitting .268 with 11 hits, one home run, five RBI and seven walks.
