Watch: WVU Football Showcases Latimer Brothers at Spring Practice

WVU Football RB Amari Latimer

The 2026 Mountaineers are home to a pair of brothers who could be part of the WVU football resurgence this fall.

West Virginia even showcased running back Amir Latimer and his older brother defensive back Geimere Latimer on social media, posting two videos that show each brother making a play during spring practice.

Amari Latimer:

Starting his college career as a freshman for West Virginia, Amari Latimer is listed at 6-foot and 228 pounds. Signed as a four-star recruit, he owns the all-time rushing yards and touchdowns records for Sandy Creek High School in Fairburn, Ga. with 5,595 yards and 78 scores.

Geimere Latimer:

The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Geimere Latimer will now reunite with Rich Rodriguez, who he played under for two years at Jacksonville State. In 27 games under Rodriguez, Latimer posted 56 tackles and picked off four passes.

With only one year remaining, Latimer will now finish his college eligibility in the Big 12 at WVU after spending the 2025 season in the Big Ten with Wisconsin. He made 23 tackles and caused a forced fumble with the Badgers.

Latimer has 79 total tackles across three college seasons to this point

In a conversation with WV Sports Now, Latimer set the record straight on if he views joining WVU as more of a personal or business decision.

In addition to his familiarity with Rich Rodriguez’s “Hard Edge” philosophy and Alley’s system from his time at Jacksonville State, Latimer will have someone even closer to him on the roster.

His younger brother, running back Amari Latimer, signed with West Virginia as a member of the 2026 recruiting class.

“That played a large role, but another reason is because I believe in (Zac) Alley’s philosophy as a defensive coordinator, being that I played in his system before. It’s also a system that fits my playing style a lot better,” said Latimer.
