WVU Football Recruiting on Rise Ahead of National Signing Day

WVU Football Weight Room
Mike Asti / WVSN

With National Signing Day set to commence on Dec. 3, it’s time to take stock in the 2026 WVU football recruiting class as it stands. The Mountaineers currently claim 37 verbal commitments already, and will look to reach 40 or more by the time the signings have concluded.

If that plan comes to fruition, this class would be one of the largest ever at WVU in terms of total number of signings. This large number of commits should allow for WVU to have a class that ranks fairly high nationally.

The gem of the class certainly remains to be offensive lineman Kevin Brown, who is the highest rated OL recruit to ever commit to the Mountaineers and a top 5 all-time commit in program history in general. Recently, defensive back Vincent Smith was also upgraded to the status of a 4-star recruit and is very highly rated as well.

Additionally, the Mountaineers focused mainly on high school recruits in this class, however, the six junior college recruits that WVU currently holds commitments from are highly regarded by the recruiting services as well. Among those JUCO commitments, WVU has the No. 2 running back nationally, the No. 3 wide receiver nationally, the No. 3 offensive lineman nationally, a top five safety nationally, and a top five cornerback nationally as well.

Adding speed was certainly a primary goal for the Mountaineers with this class, as many of the players, particularly at the skill positions, possess high-end 40 times. Not only did the Mountaineers get faster, but they got longer too – several players, especially those in the secondary, will provide excellent length to the future roster.
