Over the course of the past week, fans of both WVU Football and WVU basketball have witnessed the programs each earn commitments from two of the highest ranking recruits of all-time.
On the basketball side it was Miles Sadler, committing to the Mountaineers on November 16th before officially signing with the program a few days later on November 20th. According to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Sadler is the highest rated recruit to ever commit to West Virginia.
On the football side it was Kevin Brown, committing to the Mountaineers on November 18th and doing so live on the Pat McAfee Show. In true Mountaineer fashion, he celebrated the commitment by burning a couch live on the show as well.
Using the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings again, Kevin Brown ranks as not only the fourth-highest rated recruit in program history, but he is also the highest rated Offensive Lineman to ever commit to the Mountaineers.
Revitalizing the offensive line will be a major key to WVU football finding future success under Rodriguez, and the program may have just landed the cornerstone piece that will aid in the revitalization of that position group. While that may be a big deal in and of itself, it may signify something even more important and more meaningful to Mountaineer Nation.
These recruiting victories over the past week not only mean a lot to both of the respective WVU Sports programs, but furthermore, they may highlight a turning point for the future of West Virginia Athletics in general. Baseball has shown to be thriving in recent years and the same goes for the soccer program. Women’s basketball just picked up one of the most improbable wins of all-time and looks to be nationally competitive again. This past week of recruiting for football and men’s basketball were just a microcosm of the success that appears to be on the way for West Virginia sports programs across the board. With Athletic Director Wren Baker at the helm, Mountaineer Nation should rest assured that the future will be full of GREAT days to be a Mountaineer, wherever you may be.
