WVU Men’s Soccer will finally get its chance to host an NCAA tournament game on Thursday evening.
During the NCAA selection show Monday afternoon, the Mountaineers (12-4-3) learned their fate. WVU will battle its old rival, hosting St. Johns (9-5-4) at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. First-kick is slated for 7:00 p.m.
The Mountaineers are led by head coach and WVU alum Dan Stratford and senior Marcus Caldeira. Caldeira scored nine goals this season, with five game winning goals. That is the second most game winning goals in the country.
Despite winning the Sun Belt Conference championship in 2024, many would argue the Mountaineers were snubbed of the opportunity to host in the NCAA tournament. The team will now get its chance despite not making it to the conference championship this year. The team, however, did finish first in the regular season conference standings.
Also, hosting from the Sun Belt Conference is UCF, who will host Florida Atlantic, and Marshall, who will host Cleveland State. Kentucky will also be in the tournament, traveling to take on Saint Louis.
Tickets are set to go on sale at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 18 on WVU’s ticket website.
