West Virginia men’s basketball recently added a new sharpshooter to its backcourt with the transfer of Treysen Eaglestaff, a high-scoring guard from North Dakota known for his perimeter shooting and steady offensive production. This begs the question: How did Eaglestaff, who was incredibly overlooked coming out of high school, manage to make his way from the Summit League to the Big Twelve? He worked for it.

As a freshman in 2022–23, Eaglestaff played in all 33 games and made 11 starts. He averaged 8.4 points and hit 57 threes, shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. He scored in double figures 13 times, including six straight games to close the season.

Eaglestaff started all 32 games for the Fighting Hawks during the 2023–2024 season, averaging 28.5 minutes per game and leading the team with 80 made three-pointers. His 2.5 threes per game ranked second in the Summit League, and he set a Division I-era program record by making at least one three in 21 consecutive games.

During his sophomore season, the 6-foot-6 guard posted a career-high 33 points at Denver, where he was 9 of 13 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free-throw line. Eaglestaff also drained a personal-best six threes at Utah Tech the month prior. Over the course of his sophomore campaign, Eaglestaff proved that he was not just an offensive weapon, but a defensive one as well as he added 72 rebounds, 47 assists, 22 steals, and 12 blocks to his stat sheet.

In his most recent season with the Fighting Hawks, playing in all 33 games, playing an astounding 1050 minutes on the floor. Eaglestaff brought his scoring average up and averaged 31.8 points per game, shooting .419 percent from the field and .359 percent from three.

Eaglestaff is a native of Bismarck, North Dakota, which led to his initial decision to play for the Fighting Hawks. Eaglestaff earned Mr. Basketball honors in 2022 after a standout prep career at Bismarck High School. He holds seven school records, including career points as he boasted 1,634, and three-pointers made with a solid 230 made.

With his proven shooting ability and consistent scoring, Eaglestaff looks to be a key contributor in stretching the floor as well as being the shooter in clutch moments as the Mountaineers look to reload their roster under the new leadership of Ross Hodge.
