Former WVU Basketball star signs professional contract in NFL

Jimmy Bell smiling vs TCU

The switch from the hardwood to the football field has paid off for Jimmy Bell Jr.

After four seasons across three different men’s basketball programs, including a 2022-2023 stint with the Mountaineers, 6-foot-10, 280-pound forward Jimmy Bell Jr. announced that he would pursue an NFL roster spot earlier this year. Late Saturday night, he took the next steps toward achieving that goal.

The Los Angeles Chargers were the team to take a chance on Bell, signing him as an offensive tackle after the conclusion of the NFL Draft week. After building his body for the offensive line, Bell Jr. now weighs in at 330 pounds.

FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported Bell’s signing shortly before the incoming rookie made an announcement on his own X account.
