The West Virginia University baseball team entered the 2025 season with high expectations, building upon the momentum of a historic 2024 campaign. Under the leadership of first-year head coach Steve Sabins, the Mountaineers have demonstrated resilience and skill, positioning themselves as a formidable force in collegiate baseball.
The 2024 season was a significant milestone for WVU, as they not only advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in program history but also held a 36–24 overall record and a 19–11 mark in Big 12 play. As of April 24, 2025, WVU boasts a 34–5 record after a heartbreaking loss to Penn State, underscoring their dominance on the field. The Mountaineers’ pitching staff has been a cornerstone of their success, with standout performances from redshirt Junior, Chase Swain, who has emerged as a key asset in his first season after transferring. Additionally, pitchers Chase Meyer and Reese Bassinger have been named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List, highlighting the team’s depth and talent on the mound.
The offense has been equally impressive, with contributions from various players throughout the lineup, such as Logan Sauve, Skylar King, Brodie Kresser, and Jace Rinehart. The team’s ability to execute in high-pressure situations has been a testament to their preparation and coaching.
