West Virginia basketball has announced Mike Randle as a new assistant coach on Ross Hodge’s staff.
Randle, who grew up in Houston, worked as an assistant coach with Hodge at North Texas for the last two seasons. In those two seasons, the Mean Green finished with a 46-24 record, making it to the NIT in both seasons. He fits in perfectly with Hodge with his defensive mindset. North Texas finished third in the country in scoring last season, only giving up 60.1 points per game.
Randle graduated from Eastern New Mexico State in 2015, but began his playing career at Paris Junior College, leading them to an NJCAA Region XIV conference championship.
After his playing career concluded, Randle coached high school basketball until his first opportunity as an assistant coach for Kilgore College in 2020-2021. He helped lead them to the NJCAA National Tournament. Randle then spent the 2021-2022 season as an assistant coach for Indian River State College, where he helped them to 28 wins and a conference championship.
Before heading to North Texas, Randle spent one season at Southeastern Louisiana in 2022-2023. The Lions finished with 18 wins and a third-place finish in the Southland Conference
At North Texas, Randle was a huge part of Ross Hodge’s incredible first two seasons as a head coach. He helped recruit countless players, including Jason Edwards and Atin Wright, who finished first-team all-conference in 2024.
Winning has followed Randle wherever he traveled in his six-year coaching career. After a lot of bouncing around, he has found a home with Ross Hodge and his staff, wherever that may be, and will play a huge role in the Mountaineers’ success this season.
