WVU baseball enters the Division 1 rankings

After a 10-game win streak, West Virginia has made the d1baseball.com rankings for the first time this season. They are currently ranked the No. 24 team in the country.

This comes after a 30-4 (10-3 in the Big 12) start to the year for the Mountaineers, giving them the highest winning percentage in the entire country, out of 307 Division 1 programs.

It is hard to point the finger at one specific Mountaineer that has led to this incredible start. It has been a complete team effort. The starting pitching has seen some very good consistency in recent weeks behind their ace Griffin Kirn, who has been lighting it up with a 3.74 ERA and 55 strikeouts.

The bullpen has also seen a significant improvement from last season behind guys such as Chase Meyer and Carson Estridge. They have found ways to close out close games this season, leading to their 30 wins.

The identity of this Mountaineers team, however, is their appearance at the plate and on the bases. There are 10 batters in the WVU rotations that are hitting over a .300 batting average, and the team has 85 total stolen bases on the season. This includes 19 runs in a victory at BYU and 16 runs on a tough Kennesaw State team earlier this year.

West Virginia will need to continue winning if they want to host a regional game in the NCAA tournament later this year, something they fell just short on last season.
