West Virginia and Marshall Set to Meet in Huntington

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 14, 2025) – The No. 24 West Virginia University baseball team hits the road for a matchup with in-state rival Marshall on Tuesday. First pitch from Jack Cook Field in Huntington is set for 6 p.m.

West Virginia is 30-4 on the season and in first place in the Big 12 at 10-3 after sweeping Houston on the road this past weekend. In the latest polls, the Mountaineers sit at No. 11 in Perfect Game, No. 18 in NCBWA, No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, No. 22 in Baseball America, No. 23 in The Athletic, and No. 24 by D1Baseball, which is recognized by the NCAA.

The Mountaineers currently lead the Big 12 in both ERA (3.81) and scoring (9.2). WVU is also tops in the Big 12 in hits allowed/9 (7.11), OBP (.424), sacrifice flies (23), stolen bases (86), stolen bases/game (2.53), and WHIP (1.29).

Junior Sam White leads the team with a .380 batting average while senior Jace Rinehart has a team-high six home runs and 34 RBI. Junior Logan Sauve is hitting .346 with five home runs and was just named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Pitching Probables

RHP David Hagen (2-0, 2.50 ERA, 11 K, 7 BB, 18.0 IP) vs. RHP Peyton Jackson (0-0, 4.85 ERA, 11 K, 3 BB, 13.0 IP)

Led by 3rd-year head coach Greg Beals, Marshall is 18-18 overall this season. The Thundering Herd are coming off a 1-2 weekend against App State.

Maika Niu has a team-leading 14 multi-hit games as he leads MU with 40 hits, 11 doubles and four triples. At 27 RBI and eight homers, Ethan Murdoch leads Marshall in both categories as he also has a team-best eight multi-RBI games.
