Rowing Set for George Washington Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 11, 2025) – The West Virginia University rowing team will travel to Washington, D.C., on Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13, to compete in the George Washington Invitational.

The Regatta will be held on the Potomac River near the Thompson Boat Center. Competitors on the women’s side will include George Washington, Georgetown, Old Dominion, St. Mary’s and UC San Diego.

The event is a dual-style format race, meaning two teams will be paired against one another and that pairing will change across the three sessions. The Mountaineers are paired with George Washington on Saturday, and Old Dominion and Georgetown on Sunday morning.

“We are looking forward to the duals format during the upcoming races,” WVU associate head coach Tina Griffith said. “This format allows us to get multiple races throughout the weekend and allows us to use a more focused approach across those races. During last year’s race, the wind played a huge part and kept some of our crews from even being able to race, so we are looking forward to better weather and the full complement of racing.”

West Virginia’s entries will include a 1V8, 2V8, 1V4, 2V4 and 3V8.

“We have been paired with some very familiar crews in Georgetown and George Washington, which will allow us to really gauge our progress historically,” Griffith said. “We also will be paired with Old Dominion, who we raced against in Sarasota and who also is in the Big 12.”
