Amani Hansberry leaves WVU for Virginia Tech

West Virginia’s second highest scorer in 2024-2025 has found his new home in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Rising junior Amani Hansberry announced Saturday that he will play for Virginia Tech next season. The Hokies will be Hansberry’s third team in three years after playing for Illinois as a freshman and West Virginia as a sophomore.

The 6-foot-8 forward took the role of WVU’s lead big man, despite being a traditional forward. Hansberry joined the Mountaineers alongside Sencire Harris, who sat out his sophomore season at Illinois during Hansberry’s freshman year.

Hansberry averaged 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 23.6 minutes per game at WVU. He played in 31 of WVU’s 32 contests.
