WVU’s Individuals Complete NCAA Regional Competition

Senior Anna Leigh and freshmen Karleigh DiCello and Sophia Rice of the West Virginia University gymnastics team completed competition as individual event specialists in the Second Round of the NCAA Pennsylvania Regional Championships inside Penn State’s Rec Hall in University Park, Pa., on Thursday night.

Leigh represented the Mountaineers on floor exercise, DiCello competed on vault and beam and Rice qualified to compete on vault.

In the first rotation, DiCello stuck her Yurchenko full and scored a 9.825 on vault. She then moved to beam in the third rotation and tallied a 9.8 for a beautiful routine. The Boyds, Maryland, native rotated with Arkansas during the meet.

Leigh also competed in the third rotation on floor exercise, performing a beautiful routine to score a 9.9. The total marked her sixth 9.9+ score on the event this season. It also was the second-highest score on floor in the second session, which tied the St. Michael, Minnesota, native for sixth place.

A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, native, Rice was the final individual to compete, finishing off the last rotation with her Tsuk full vault and scoring a 9.8. Both Rice and Leigh rotated with Michigan during the meet.

The Mountaineers’ 2025 campaign officially ended on Thursday evening. Despite finishing the season with a 4-14 record, WVU posted three scores of 196.0+ and qualified for its 44th NCAA Regional Championships appearance with a 195.855 National Qualifying Score. The end-of-season NQS ranked West Virginia No. 36 nationally, qualifying it for its ninth postseason in the last 10 years. Leigh was named to the All-Big 12 Team on floor, while DiCello and classmate Emerson Smith were named to the All-Freshman Team. At the 2025 Big 12 Championship, Rice tied for second place on floor with a 9.9, earning a spot on the All-Championship Team.
