Travis Trickett discusses his return to Morgantown

Coming back to Morgantown, Travis Trickett has taken on the senior offensive assistant role for Rich Rodriguez and the Mountaineers.

Having graduated and coached at West Virginia, Trickett discussed how much his return means to him and his family.

“It has always been a dream of mine to coach here,” Trickett said.

“To be able to do that under my head coach that I was under when I was a student here, I mean you can’t put a price on that.”

Back in 2003 was the first time Trickett worked under Rodriguez as a student assistant. Trickett’s father, Rick Trickett was also on the staff at this time as an offensive line coach.

Despite having his father on the coaching staff, Trickett had to earn his roal as a student assistant himself.

“He said if you wnt to help coach while you’re a student here, you need to go talk to coach Rodriguez yourself. So he didn’t set it up, I had to go knock on coach Rod’s door back when it was over here and say coach I want to help out,” Trickett said.

Described as a “jack of all trades” Trickett explained exactly what his position means as the senior offensive assistant.

“Everything is gone through coach Rodriguez and so it’s my job to make sure as that guy that facilitates that make sure the standards are being upheld,” Trickett went on to say, “I’m really a facilitator to make sure everything that he wants done how it wants done is being done to that standard so while he’s calling plays, everything else is getting done to the standard that he wants to.”

Trickett and the Mountaineers look forward as they prepare for the Gold-Blue Spring Game Saturday.
