West Virginia golf finished in sixth place earlier today in the Schenkel Invitational. This is the team’s best finish in the event since they were reinstated ten years ago.
The Mountaineers finished three under par in the final round, moving them to sixth place in the match. After a tough finish to the match last week, WVU bounced back. They have been improving all year and are beginning to get hot at the right time.
WVU was led by Kaleb Wilson, who continues to play great golf. He finished even par on the weekend and 23rd overall in the field. In a sport where your score could change by the day, Wilson has found a way to stay consistent the last few weeks, helping the Mountaineers to some victories and high tournament finishes.
Todd Duncan is another Mountaineer who had a great weekend. He finished tied for 31st place and shot even par in the final round. He has improved his game all year, becoming one of the key players on this Mountaineer team.
With no golfer in the top ten overall, it was a total team effort for the Mountaineers. Other key contributors to the sixth-place finish include Max Green, who finished in 28th place, and Carson Kamman, who finished with the best round of the day at two-under-par and 44th place overall.
West Virginia will have a lot of time to work on their game and keep improving. Their next match will be in the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club. The first round will begin on April 14 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
