WVU baseball has gotten out to a hot start to begin the year. The Mountaineers are 18-1 and ranked second in the Big 12 with conference play only beginning.
The one team above West Virginia is an Arizona team that has already been in some big games to begin the year. They defeated the then ranked number one team in the country, Texas A&M, and defeated a tough Mississippi State team ranked No. 18 in the country. There only faults this season were close defeats to very good Tennessee and Clemson teams.
The Wildcats are led by junior Brendan Summerhill, who has a .427 batting average and 22 RBIs. The roster is loaded from top to bottom with some of the top talent in the conference.
The Mountaineers have been a complete team to begin the year. Every batter has over a .250 batting average, and the pitching has been solid for Coach Sabins. Three returners from last season, Skylar King, Brodie Kresser, and Sam White, have led the team on and off the field to begin the year.
King is batting a .444 average with 12 RBIs while also being elite in the outfield. Kresser, who went on a hot stretch against Queens earlier in the year, has a .354 batting average and 16 RBIs. Sam White has been excellent behind the plate for the Mountaineers while also batting a .391 average with 19 RBIs.
WVU will look to keep the good start to the year going this weekend at home against arguably the best team in the conference. The first game will begin on Friday, March 21st at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
