WVU golf competed in the Johnnie-O at Sea Island earlier today, competing against 12 other schools at Sea Island Resort in Georgia.
After the first round of the tournament was postponed yesterday, each team and player played 36 holes today (2 rounds) to decide the winner. WVU as a team struggled, shooting 16 over and finishing 11th out of the 14 teams.
Kaleb Wilson was a bright spot for the Mountaineers. He finished one under and in 8th place out of 80 total players. Wilson began the day shooting an even 70 in the first round. He improved his score in the second round by shooting a 69 and putting him one under par on the day.
West Virginia has had its ups and downs so far this season, but Wilson has shined in his junior season with the Mountaineers. He won his first collegiate tournament at the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational and was the only golfer to shoot under par in all three rounds. He also tied for eighth place at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate at five under.
WVU will remain in Georgia for the Schenkel Invitational starting on Friday. Round one will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET.
