Tonight, the Mountaineers faced off against the JMU Dukes for their 18th game of the season.
Starting the game, the Dukes went three up, three down after an inning ending double play.
The Mountaineers got off to a hot start offensively, scoring two runs right away after a hit-by-pitch and a walk.
This was just the start as Chase Swain drove in two with a single to center field.
After an unsuccessful pickoff attempt by Dukes pitcher Tim Tyler, Swain advanced to second and Skylar King scored.
Grant Hussey then stepped up to the plate and barreled a three-run home run.
West Virginia was off to a quick 8-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning.
Freshman Mac Stiffler had a solid start for the Mountaineers, striking out three and only giving up one hit and one run in his three innings pitched.
At the end of the sixth, the Mountainners led the Dukes 9-1 after Ben Lumsden drove in another after another hit-by-pitch.
Micheal Perazza lined out to right field as Brodie Kresser tagged up from third, making the score 10-1 West Virginia.
To finish an impressive performance, freshman Jorge Valdes singled to right field in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Armani Guzman to score.
This concluded the game due to the 10-run rule. The Mountaineers were victorious, winning 11-1 in eight innings.
Steve Sabins’s Mountaineers put up nine hits on the Dukes while only allowing three.
This dominant victory marked the 150th win at Kendrick Family Ballpark for West Virginia and 17-1 for the season.
Sabins and the Mountaineers look to keep the momentum going as they have their second game of a two-game series tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. against the Dukes.
