Fran Fraschilla Weighs in On WVU vs. Iowa Coaching Jobs

Fran Fraschilla gives his opinion on the difference between Iowa and WVU’s potential coaching jobs as rumors swirl about Darian DeVries’ future.

In recent weeks, there has been some buzz around Darian DeVries and his future after Iowa fired Fran McCaffery earlier this week. Many people believe that DeVries, who grew up in Aplington, Iowa, would consider returning home to continue his career at the University of Iowa.

Fran Fraschilla weighed in on X with his opinion on the state of the current situations in Morgantown and Iowa.

“@WVUhoops is (if not a sleeping giant) a better job than @IowaHoops right now in my opinion,” Fraschilla said.

This comes just a day after Selection Sunday, in which both Iowa and West Virginia were left out of the NCAA Tournament. WVU was one of the first four teams out of the bracket and believed that they had the resume to have made the tournament.

“The team is the state’s pro basketball team & fan support is awesome. They have great NIL and great facilities. And the governor has your back. The leagues are similar, of course. I’m hoping that the Mountaineers do not need another coach for a while,” Fraschilla said.

DeVries will have a major decision to make on whether he wants to continue to build the program at WVU or return home to coach for his hometown team. Wren Baker and his staff will do everything they can to ensure that DeVries remains in Morgantown long term but it’s going to be a challenge to top the offer that Iowa may make to him.
