Thursday evening marked the ending of day three for the men’s basketball Big 12 Tournament. With just four teams left in the running to bring home the championship, play gets more intense each day.
In Game 9, No. 4 BYU barely overpowered No. 5 Iowa State to move on to the quarterfinals. Finishing with a score of 96-92, Iowa State’s Curtis Jones led all scorers with 31 points. Richie Saunders led BYU with 23.
To no one’s surprise No. 1 Houston overpowered No. 16 Colorado in Game 10. After the Cougars 10-0 run in the first half they kept their momentum moving finishing the game with a score of 77-68. Colorado’s Andrej Jakimovski continued to dominate leading all scorers with 25 points.
Game 11 resulted in a nail biter between No. 2 Texas Tech and No. 7 Baylor. While the Bears were looking for an upset, they fell short to the Red Raiders by just two points with a score of 76-74. Trailing by well over 10 at the end of the first half, Baylor turned their game around to close the gap, but just couldn’t finish the job.
The final game of the evening resulted in No. 3 Arizona defeating No. 6 Kansas by a score of 88-77. Kansas’ Zeke Mayo led all scorers with 20 points while Hunter Dickinson put up 12 rebounds for the Jayhawks.
This evening brings on semifinals leaving just four teams in the mix. No. 1 Houston will face No. 4 BYU at 7:00 p.m. EST. No. 2 Texas Tech will face No. 3 Arizona at 9:30 p.m. EST to determine who will head to the championship game Saturday evening.
