Walter Young Bear is a 6-foot-3 312 312-pound offensive lineman who was a huge get for Rich Rodriguez and his staff and is expected to be a big part of the team’s success on the offensive line.
Young Bear is a redshirt senior offensive lineman from Norman, Oklahoma, who spent his previous years playing at Tulsa. As a former walk-on at Tulsa, Young Bear ended up playing in 33 games and starting 13 at left guard. When he hit the transfer portal in 2024, 24/7 Sports ranked him as a three-star transfer and the No. 29 interior offensive lineman in the portal. Young Bear has been named as one of the weight room warriors two times in his time with WVU.
Young Bear joins the Mountaineers as one of five offensive linemen they got in the first cycle of the transfer portal and is expected to be a huge part of the team’s success. The transfer portal is set to open up once again after spring practices, and the Mountaineers might go after more depth pieces for the offensive line.
Young Bear is going to get a prime opportunity to showcase his skillset and make a great impression on the coaching staff.
