After a narrow 71-69 win against Utah, Darian DeVries briefly discussed the Mountaineers’ performance.
As of right now, West Virginia is on the hunt for a possible 10 seed in the NCAA tournament. This victory could have opened that door a little wider for the Mountaineers. DeVries was asked about how he keeps his team focused for the next game in front of them against UCF rather than getting caught up in the tournament talk.
“Honestly I think that’ll be pretty easy for us. It’s senior night, we got a lot of seniors, it’s their last home game,” DeVries said.
Javon Small had another big night for West Virginia, leading the team with 18 points and hitting some clutch shots at the end to secure the win.
“He’s really rose in big moments for us and tonight was no different,” DeVries said.
Playing a much bigger Utah team, the Mountaineers were out-rebounded by nine Tuesday night.
“We’re not going to be above the rim grabbing rebounds so we got to be more physical and hit bodies and make contact as much as possible,” DeVries said when asked about how he manages playing bigger teams.
With senior night in front of the Mountaineers, they look to take on UCF for their final home game and solidify their March resume.
