Mountaineers enter Big 12 WBB tournament as No. 4 seed

On Friday night, the Big 12 announced the official Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship bracket.

After finishing the season with an overall record of 23-6 and conference record of 13-5, the Mountaineers were awarded the No. 4 seed in the bracket. The Mountaineers beat out Kansas State and Utah for the No. 4 seed after finishing tied in conference record. West Virginia had a 2-0 record against those schools.

This is the best the Mountaineers have finished in conference standings since finishing second in 2021.

Being a top four seed, West Virginia is awarded a two-round bye. They will play the winner of No. 5 seed Kansas State against No.12 BYU/ No.13 UCF, Thursday, March 7. In their last meeting this season, West Virginia defeated Kansas State 70-57 in Morgantown.

The first round of games are set to begin Wednesday, March 5, in the T-Mobile Center. The championship game will be  played Sunday, March 9.

The Mountaineers look to continue their impressive season and have the opportunity to build their NCAA tournament resume even more.
