Barnick, Perrin Make Podium, Rifle in First at GARC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 1, 2025) – Seniors Gavin Barnick and Natalie Perrin hit the individual smallbore podium, finishing in first and third place, during the opening day of competition of the Great America Rifle Conference Championship. West Virginia posted the top team smallbore score to sit in first place in the championship, being hosted by the Mountaineers in Morgantown.

After shooting an opening-day smallbore score of 2350, WVU sits four points ahead of second-place Kentucky, who scored 2346 during the first day of action.

West Virginia was led by Barnick, who claimed first place in the smallbore final with a mark of 464.1. He finished ahead of Kentucky’s Liz Probst, who posted a final score of 461.6. Perrin rounded out the podium with her final mark of 447.1. Both Barnick and Perrin finished qualifying with 598 marks.

In total, four Mountaineers qualified for the eight-person final. Sophomore Griffin Lake finished in fourth place while sophomore Jacob Wisman took home fifth place in the final. In qualifying, Wisman produced a team-best 591 to set a new career high, while Lake posted a 590.

Freshman Ashlyn Blake scored a 587 in qualifying while freshman Camryn Camp posted a 586. Sophomore Lauri Syrja and freshman Jennifer Kocher scored equal 584 marks and sophomore Maximus Duncan hit 583.

Five Mountaineers counted toward the team’s opening-day score: Barnick, Lake, Syrja, Blake and Kocher.

Navy is third after a 2339 smallbore, while Akron sits in fourth at 2330. Army is in seventh at 2325, and Memphis rounds out the leaderboard at 2317.

West Virginia concludes action at the 2025 GARC Championships on Sunday, March 2, in Morgantown.
