Rich Rodriguez Talks About ‘Hard-Edge’ Mentality and Mentions WVU Great Pat Mcafee

Rich Rodriguez met with the media Tuesday after the conclusion of the team’s first spring practice as he went into detail about the “Hard-Edge” mentality he preaches to his team and shouted out Pat Mcafee.

Having a “hard-edge” mentality has been something that WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez has preached since the day he was hired back at WVU. He uses that phrase to describe the mental and physical toughness he demands out of his players and the way he wants them to play.

“Once you get it, you get it and you have it but when you do not have it and everyone else around you has it you stand out in the wrong way,” Rodriguez said.

This has always been Coach Rodriguez’s motto as a coach even dating back to his first tenure with WVU.

“When we had success, whether it was here or wherever it was, it was because we had really good players that had that hard-edge mentality,” Rodriguez said.

Towards the end of the press conference, Rodriguez mentioned WVU great Pat Mcafee as being a player that stood out to him and embodies that mentality that he looks to get out of his players.

”Pat Mcafee had that as a specialist, and he’s had in his career, as a pro player and in his career with the media. Pat works his tail off, he’s going to outwork people, and he’s got that mentality, I’m going to be the best guy to analyze this that there is,” Rodriguez said.

Mcafee played for WVU and Rich Rodriguez from 2005-2007 and was a big advocate in getting Rodriguez back to Morgantown.
