Utah fires Craig Smith, names Josh Eilert as interim head coach

Utah men’s basketball fired Craig Smith and named Josh Eilert their interim head coach for the rest of the season. Eilert was the interim head coach for WVU during the 2023-2024 season.

Smith spent four years as the Utah head coach and never made an NCAA Tournament appearance. He will leave the school with a 65-62 overall record. This may surprise fans, as Utah is currently 15-12 overall (7-9 in the Big 12) and is coming off two big wins last week against Kansas and Kansas State.

This will be tough for Eilert, who will have to coach a team he has only been with for a year in a conference with tough competition. The Mountaineers will travel to Utah to face Eilert and the Utes March 4 in a game everyone will have their eyes on.
