The Mountaineers secured a much-needed victory on Wednesday in a home matchup against Cincinnati. They are now 2-0 against the Bearcats on the season.

WVU led by 9 points with 17.0 seconds remaining before Cincinnati hit two big threes to make it a three-point game with four seconds remaining. Even after the near scare for the Mountaineers, it was a great win as they kept their tournament hopes alive.

Amani Hansberry led the way for the Mountaineers in what was a career night for him. He finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 50% from the three-point line.

Hansberry was asked about the turnover and two threes that were given up at the end of the game. “We know what we had to do to win in those situations. We have been there before and let a few of them slip. Just learning from our mistakes prior, and just playing hard, keeping the ball in front, and no dumb fouls,” he said.

The Mountaineers have been waiting on that second guy since Tucker DeVries got injured, and Hansberry is looking to step up. His work at practice has shown on the court.

“I am here. I work for this every day, every week. I believe in myself and my teammates believe in me. They give me little tips and stuff like that just to keep growing as a player,” Hansberry said.

West Virginia’s season is far from over. They will need to pick up a few key victories down the stretch to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes intact. They will face No. 9 Texas Tech on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
