Griffin Kirn is the newest Mountaineer to impress in his debut with the team as he looks to solidify a spot at the top of the WVU starting rotation.
Kirn is a left-handed starting pitcher and redshirt senior who is in his first season in Morgantown after he has spent his first four seasons at Quincy University. In his time at Quincy, Kirn posted an impressive 22-8 record and pitched to a 4.86 ERA while punching out 259 batters in 215.0 innings pitched over his time there.
Kirn had posted his strongest season to date in 2024, going 8-1 with a 2.96 ERA and striking out 100 hitters. He was also named to three First-Team All-Region teams and an All-Conference team and even won GLVC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2024. He was also named a CCA All-American.
In his first outing with the Mountaineers against Jacksonville in the season opener, Kirn posted 5.2 innings of one-run ball, striking out five Dolphins hitters and only allowing three walks.
Griffin Kirn is looking to solidify himself as a top starting pitcher in the Mountaineers rotation in 2025, a spot in which they struggled to find consistency from in 2024.
