West Virginia Baseball defeated Jacksonville University by a score of 4-2 Friday afternoon. It is the first win under head coach Steve Sabins.
The Mountaineers started things early with two singles by Logan Suave and Sam White. After a sac-fly from Michael Perazza, WVU found themselves up 2-0 in the 1st inning.
A Jacksonville State error allowed the Mountaineers to go up 3-0, off a pop-fly by Armani Guzman. Logan Suave then hit another single into Center Field putting the Mountaineers up 4-0.
Senior transfer pitcher Griffin Kirn started things off for the Mountaineers, pitching 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and one hit allowed.
The bullpen for WVU also performed well including four big outs from Kent State transfer Jack Kartsonas.
After a fast start to the game, defense eventually took over for both teams leading to the Mountaineers’s victory. WVU will have two games tomorrow against Jacksonville, with the first game beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the second at 4:30 p.m.
