WVU Baseball just announced their pitching rotation for their first three games in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend.
The Mountaineers will begin Friday with Griffin Kirn. Kirn was a four-year starter for Quincy University before transferring to the Mountaineers this offseason. He pitched a 4.86 era while striking out 259 batters in 219.0 innings in his four seasons with the Hawks.
WVU will then turn to Junior Robby Porco for their first game on Saturday. Porco was inserted into the lineup last season in big games against Marshall and Kansas. He went 2-1 while striking out 11 batters in 10.1 innings.
In their second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Mountaineers will start Gavin Van Kempen, a junior out of Castleton, NY. Van Kempen pitched well for the Mountaineers last season, he went 7-1 with a 3.14 ERA in 5 starts.
With big losses such as Derek Clark and Aidan Major in the offseason, the Mountaineers are completely turning the page on their pitching rotation. It will be fun to see who will stand out this season for West Virginia.
