The West Virginia football schedule was just recently released and with a new head coach and roster, the Mountaineers look to turn their program around. September 2025 brings both new and old challenges for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia kicks off its 2025-2026 season on Aug. 30 at home. The Mountaineers will play Robert Morris for the first time.
The Mountaineers’ second game of the season is away against Ohio University. The two teams signed a deal to play a three-year series starting this upcoming season. The Mountaineers are 4-0 against Ohio with the last meeting being over 13 years ago.
Arguably the biggest game of the 2025-2026 season is the Backyard Brawl. Head Coach Rich Rodriguez faced Pitt during his last season with the Mountaineers in 2007. West Virginia fell with a score of just 13-9. The Mountaineers look for revenge on Sept. 9 hosting the Panthers at home.
The Mountaineers travel on the 20th to take on Kansas for their second road game during September. West Virginia holds the upper-hand with a record of 11-2 against the Jayhawks securing a win during their last meeting.
While West Virginia has seen Utah in previous matchups, they will host the Utes on Sept. 27 for the first time as opponents in the Big 12. The Mountaineers have yet to take down the Utes losing their last meeting over seven years ago during a bowl game.
