West Virginia travels to Texas to face TCU in a Big 12 matchup Wednesday evening.
The Horned Frogs (11-10, 4-6 Big 12) are coming off a 68-57 home win over Colorado. It was a much-needed conference victory against a Buffaloes team that has yet to win in Big 12 play, dropping 10 straight league games.
WVU (15-8, 5-5) picked up a road win over Cincinnati, led by Javon Small’s 19 points. Joseph Yesufu provided a spark off the bench, scoring 16 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from 3-point range.
Once again, the Mountaineers’ strong suit was their perimeter defense, holding Cincinnati to 31% from beyond the arc. WVU is tied with Kansas for first in the Big 12 in opponent 3-point percentage, holding teams to just 29%. TCU ranks last in the conference in 3-point shooting, so this trend could continue against a tough Mountaineers defense.
In other news, it was officially announced this week that Tucker DeVries, the coach’s son, will miss the remainder of the season and undergo surgery. He is expected to apply for a medical redshirt in hopes of gaining another year of eligibility. DeVries has not played since Dec. 6 in WVU’s win over Georgetown.
TCU struggles offensively, ranking last in the Big 12 in field-goal percentage and second to last in free-throw percentage.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena, where WVU will look to secure another road win before returning home to face Utah on Saturday night at the WVU Coliseum.
