Early shooting trouble results in West Virginia loss at Kansas State

No. 23 West Virginia fell to Kansas State following a slow start in their matchup Saturday evening. This marks the Mountaineers’ second loss in a row after defeating No. 2 Iowa State at home.

Kansas State had no trouble finding the net early in the half, but the Mountaineers were unable to respond. Only putting up 18 points in the first half, West Virginia shot 24.1% from the field and 10% behind the arc. The Wildcats managed a 17-0 scoring run leaving the Mountaineers without a shot in over six minutes. The half finished with a score of 18-42.

The Mountaineers picked up their speed in the second half but were not able to complete the task. They improved their field goal percentage to 46.2% and 27.3% from the three-point line but eventually fell 60-73.

West Virginia’s Javon Small led the Mountaineers with 22 points, nine of them being from the three-point line.

The Mountaineers look to get back on track in a home match Wednesday evening against No. 7 Houston.
