After a tough loss at home to Arizona State, WVU head coach Darian DeVries shifted his team’s attention to Kansas State on Jan. 25.
The Mountaineers have done well in bounce-back games so far this season. Some key bounce-back victories include Arizona Iowa State, and Colorado. DeVries and the team have done a great job of not getting caught in the moment so far this year.
Looking ahead to Kansas State on Saturday, DeVries had only good things to say about the Wildcats. They are led by Senior Coleman Hawkins, who averages 10.7 points per game. Hawkins is listed as a guard at 6′ 10″.
“The biggest thing is Hawkins as a point-forward type. They are gonna utilize him in pick and pop. They play a lot with him posting in the mid-range and they force you to make decisions,” said DeVries
Kansas State had one of the best transfer classes in the country heading into the season, but the team has not yet found their stride. The Wildcats are 7-11, with only one conference win against Cincinnati to open conference play.
“When you look at them in Big 12 play, their games have come right down to the wire. They are right there. They just haven’t had the wins to show for it. They are a very talented team,” DeVries said.
After the loss on Tuesday, every game is crucial for the Mountaineers as we near closer to March. They have found themselves in the middle of the pack in the Big 12. The team is looking to get a big road win on Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum at 6:00 p.m.
