West Virginia saw several similarities between its women’s and men’s basketball programs this week.
Both Mountaineer squads took down Iowa State, both earned positions on the AP top 25 poll, with the men’s rejoining the top 25 and the women’s moving up on the list, and both had a Big 12 Player of the Week leading the way.
Senior guard JJ Quinerly earned her first Big 12 Player of the Week nod this season for the women’s team. She joins Javon Small in the honor this week.
In dominant wins over Colorado and Iowa State, Quinerly shined, recording 19.5 points, three rebounds, two assists, 3.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks on average.
WVU’s nationally televised appearance on Sunday against Iowa State helped show off Quinerly’s energy, stamina, and two-way prowess this week.
Quinerly’s increased production moved her to 47th in the NCAA in scoring average and ninth in steals per game. Her season averages are now at 18.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.
Efficiency remains a question mark for Quinerly this season, as she is down to 41.9 percent shooting from the field and 28.4 percent shooting from three. Quinerly shot 15-for-37 from the field and 3-11 from long range this week.
WVU returns to the floor in Arizona this week, taking on Arizona State on Wednesday and Arizona on Saturday. Both games tip off at 8:30 p.m. ET.
