After WVU upset its top ranked program, the Big 12 recognized Mountaineer senior guard Javon Small as its Player of the Week on Monday.
In two games against top 10 opponents, Small averaged 20 points, 6.5 assists, four rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks this week.
In the second of the two games, Small scored 27 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field, including a three point shot with less than a minute remaining that secured WVU’s upset over No. 2 Iowa State. Small added seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the win.
The Big 12 Player of the Week honor is Small’s second in just 10 weeks with WVU. Small was named Co-Player of the Week alongside Iowa State’s Keshon Gilbert in the first week of December after averaging 23.7 points per game in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas. WVU took down No. 3 Gonzaga and No. 24 Arizona in the tournament.
Small and the Mountaineers will take on unranked competition for the first time in three games on Tuesday, as they host Arizona State at 9 p.m. ET in Morgantown.
