Former Mountaineer Rasul Douglas saves Buffalo Bills in NFL Playoffs

Former WVU cornerback Rasul Douglas made his impact known on the biggest stage on Sunday.

Douglas most recently played at WVU in 2016 before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. As a rookie, Douglas had the luxury of winning a Super Bowl title in Philadelphia, and he now brings that postseason experience to Buffalo.

In his second season with the Buffalo Bills, Douglas had his moment to shine in the second round of the NFL Playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens.

Up 27-25, Douglas lined up for Buffalo against kicker Justin Tucker for the kickoff. Tucker went for an onside kick, and Douglas was there to recover it for Buffalo. With 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter, Buffalo regained possession and held onto the ball to advance to the AFC Championship.

Post game, Douglas said he works on recovering onside kicks for 10 minutes every Thursday after practice. In the biggest moment, that practice paid off.

“The look on (special teams coordinator Matthew) Smiley and them’s faces when the ball got kicked to me and I caught it and I fell down – priceless,” Douglas said.

Douglas and the Bills will continue their road to the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. as they take on the reigning two-time world champion Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC title.
