Darian DeVries praises Javon Small’s Saturday night performance

Darian DeVries had nothing but praise for his senior guard Javon Small following his stellar performance against No. 2 Iowa State Saturday night. In the second half alone, Javon Small put up 20 points, 12 of them being in the final two minutes of the game.

“He’s been incredible all year. I think he’s the best guard in the country right now,” DeVries said.

Small has only spent a short amount of time with West Virginia as he committed this past May. He came from conference opponent Oklahoma State and previously spent two years with East Carolina.

Having already collected multiple awards this year such as Big 12 Player of the Week and the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week earlier in the season, Small is definitely a contender for Big 12 Player of the Year.

“They’re right,” DeVries responded when asked what his response would be if someone referred to Small as Big 12 Player of the Year. “He’s on my team, so that’s our guy. I wouldn’t trade him for anybody.”

DeVries went on to share how much of an exceptional player Small is as well as a leader on the court. He said he doesn’t care about winning the award but just winning games for his team.
