WVU Women’s basketball are winners of three straight and are coming off a dominating performance on the road against a tough and athletic Texas Tech team.
Things felt a little shaky after the team lost their first conference game on the road against Colorado after what head coach Mark Kellogg called “an anomaly” of a quarter that cost them the game.
It might not be a coincidence that the team’s success is starting to really pick back up at the same time their star player, JJ Quinerly, is also hitting her stride. In the team’s last three wins, the player of the year candidate is averaging 23.7 points per game.
The team did not just dominate Texas Tech on the road last night, they ran them off of their own floor, winning 89-53 against the 12-4 team.
In that game, the Mountaineers had five different girls score in double figured and got to the free throw line an incredible 31 times, making 28 of them as a team. They also have continued to turn teams over at a very high rate in Big 12 play and forced 26 against the Red Raiders.
The big three backcourt for WVU, Quinerly, Jordan Harrison, and Sydney Shaw, all almost scored 20 points last night as well. Harrison finished with 20 and Shaw had 19 to go with Quinerly’s team high 21.
When those three girls are all scoring for WVU, they can hit from so many different levels both on the offensive and defensive end that it will make it impossible for any team to keep up.
West Virginia will stay on their road trip for their next game to take on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls who currently hold the same record as WVU at 13-2 and a 3-1 Big 12 record.
That game is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th with tip-off at 3:00 p.m. ET.
