West Virginia Lands Commitment from Michael Coats Jr.

Former Nevada cornerback Michael Coats Jr has committed to West Virginia, he confirmed with an Instagram story post Thursday.

Coats, the 5-foot-10, 178-pound Biloxi, Mississippi native, began his career at Louisiana Tech in 2022. He spent a year at East Central Community College before transferring to Nevada in 2023.

This past season, Coats had a standout year with 41 total tackles (29 solo), 13 passes defended and four interceptions. His play in 2024 earned him College Football Network All-America Honorable Mention, HERO Sports Group of Five All-America First Team, and All-Mountain West First Team honors.

Considered one of the top cornerbacks in the transfer portal, Coats received interest from multiple power conference programs, like Mississippi. Coats becomes yet another defensive back transfer to choose West Virginia in the past 24 hours.
